Stealth Ad on Flagpole

The photographer for this picture snuck his name onto the flag!

It's hard to read, but this says "W.B. Deans Ambrotypes." You could call it an 1850s version of today's digital "Easter eggs," a little surprise hidden where you might never know to look.

The engraving appears in the lower left corner of the Susquehanna County PA 1858 wall map. Isn't that grapevine border lovely?

The whole colorful map is available from www.old-maps.com.

If you are Mr. Deans's great granddaughter, you can buy your copy of his stealth ad here.
